Latest funding opportunities from the NIHR HTA
Commissioned funding stream
The NIHR is currently offering three funding opportunities with a deadline of 1 pm on 12 May 2015:
14/224 - Opioids in chronic non-malignant pain
14/226 - Septoplasty for a deviated nasal septum
14/230 - L-ornithine-l-aspartate (LOLA) and/or Rifaximin for acute hepatic encephalopathy in patients with cirrhosis

Researcher-led funding stream
Applications in any clinical research area using any of the study designs described on the NIHR's remit page can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Applications are considered three times a year. Round 6 of NIHR Research Methods Fellowships and Internships Launched
The NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre (TCC) has launched Round 6 of the NIHR Research Methods Fellowships and Internships scheme.
In recognition of the importance of using systematic reviews to inform the delivery of health and social care, the Research Methods Scheme has been expanded to include NIHR Systematic Review Fellowships.
Applications to host a Systematic Review Fellow are for:
- NIHR Senior Investigators (past and present)
- Emeritus Senior Investigators
- Those at a senior level who have received funding to support the NIHR Systematic Reviews Programme

New approach for commissioning briefs
The NIHR is testing a new approach to attract applications addressing particularly challenging research briefs. There are a small number of briefs which have been advertised in the past which have not been funded, but are a continued priority for the NHS. The new approach to advertising these briefs is to hold calls open for longer periods, with an allowance for more divergence from the particular specifications of the commissioning brief, provided applicants can justify their choice of approach.
