Fellow in Clinical Leadership (Darzi Fellowship)

The National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia's Health Services Research Centre (HSRC) in conjunction with the UCL/UCLH Surgical Outcomes Research Centre and University College London Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH) wishes to appoint a Fellow in Clinical Leadership, as part of the Darzi Fellowship programme, based at UCLH.
The programme aims to support a trainee anaesthetist in the later stages of their CCT training programme in a 12-month project-based attachment. The successful post holder would support the work of the Royal College of Anaesthetists/Health Services Research Centre Quality Measures Advisory Group in a project to develop and implement an evidence-based quality and outcomes framework for perioperative care.
Subject to RCoA support, this post can be counted as Out of Programme Training (OOPT).
This project will develop a dataset and implement a pilot study for measuring quality and outcomes in patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery, for the purposes of quality improvement and to measure the impact of service changes. The Fellow will be principally responsible for:
- Completing work on the dataset. This may include academic work such as systematic review and Delphi consensus meetings
- Achieving regulatory approvals (ethics and/or Section 251 approval) for the pilot project
- Approaching and achieving clinical engagement from a small group of hospitals to participate in the pilot project
- Overseeing the set-up of the pilot project.
The post holder will also be expected to undertake an average of three clinical sessions per week in anaesthesia at UCLH. The fellow will be based at the UCL/UCLH Surgical Outcomes Research Centre and directly supervised by its Director, Dr. Ramani Moonesinghe. In addition to this specific project, the Fellow will also participate in a development programme over the course of the year that aims to develop the organisational and leadership skills necessary for a future role as a clinical leader.
The post holder will also be expected to attend national and regional events appropriate to the role and contribute to a number of key groups and committees within the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) and the NIAA's Health Services Research Centre.
