Dr Ramani Moonesinghe appointed as NIAA Health Services Research Centre Director
We are delighted to announce that Dr Ramani Moonesinghe has been appointed as Director of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) Health Services Research Centre (HSRC). Dr Moonesinghe will take up the appointment with effect from 1 April 2016.
The establishment of a national Perioperative Quality Improvement Programme (PQIP) with a focus on measuring and improving patient outcomes after major surgery sees the HSRC entering an exciting new phase of its development. Under the leadership of Dr Moonesinghe, the HSRC will continue to create more opportunities for anaesthetists to lead and participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
Dr Moonesinghe is currently the Deputy Director of the NIAA HSRC and has led UCLH's Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) since 2010. Other leadership roles include Chief Investigator for SNAP-1, SNAP-2 and PQIP. Dr Moonesinghe has been a member of the NIAA Board since 2009 and as the Academic Training Co-ordinator has established a highly successful course to engage trainees and non-academic consultants in research.
Dr Moonesinghe will follow in the footsteps of Professor Mike Grocott who is the founding Director of the HSRC and under whose leadership we have seen the HSRC grow from strength to strength over the last 5 years. Mike has led the development and co-ordination of a first class programme of national clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives, at all times keeping patient-centred research at the core of the HSRC's aims and aspirations. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his visionary leadership, dedication and commitment and for laying such strong foundations on which the HSRC can build over the coming years.
