Funding Opportunities
NIAA Research Award 2016
We're pleased to announce the details of the new NIAA Research Award which will be presented at the inaugural Annual Scientific Meeting on Thursday 14th April at the RCoA in London. Developed by Professor Fang Gao Smith, the award will be open to all research active investigators of anaesthesia, critical care, perioperative medicine and pain within the UK who are engaged in a higher degree programme and have demonstrated excellence in scientific research. Applicants are invited to submit a summary of their 'body of work' before the deadline on Thursday 4th February, 5pm. More information and details on criteria can be found here.
NIAA Research Grants: Round 1 2016
The deadline for Round 1 applications is noon, Friday 22nd April. Grants are being offered by AAGBI/Anaesthesia, BJA/RCoA, BSOA, DAS, NACCSGBI, OAA, and VASGBI. Please check the NIAA website for further details and application forms.
Clinical Research Training Fellow/PhD Fellowship
Applications are invited from clinically qualified physicians with an interest in critical care, surgery or perioperative medicine, to join the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group, within the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The fellow will work as part of the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group, led by Prof Rupert Pearse.The closing date for applications is 7th February. Dr Ramani Moonesinghe appointed as HSRC Director
Congratulations to Dr Ramani Moonesinghe who has been appointed as Director of the Health Services Research Centre (HSRC), effective from 1st April 2016. Ramani is currently the Deputy Director of the HSRC, has been a member of the NIAA Board since 2009 and has held various leadership roles including Director of UCLH's Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) since 2010. We're delighted to welcome Ramani to this role, and look forward to her continuing the excellent work started by current founding Director, Professor Mike Grocott. More details on our website here.
Vacancy: HSRC Deputy Director
Applications are now being invited for the position of Health Services Research Centre Deputy Director. A fixed term 3 year post, the role will involve supporting the HSRC Director, deputising where required and leading the next stage of the HSRC's Clinical Measures Programme. It is also supported by the cost of 1 PA per week backfilled to the post holder's Trust, and requires a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week. Events
QuARC Meeting and Quality Improvement Training - 24th & 25th February
The annual HSRC QuARC Meeting takes place on Thursday 25th February at the RCoA in London, and again dovetails with a Quality Improvement training day prior to this on Wednesday 24th February. Both events are suitable for QuARCs to attend.
The QuARC Meeting will include updates from HSRC and NIAA, discussion sessions and updates from QuARC led initiatives across the UK. It is free for QuARCs and carries 5 CPD credits. More information is available here.
NIAA Annual Scientific Meeting - 14th April
The inaugural Annual Scientific Meeting will see the launch of both the NIAA Research Award as well as focusing on the launch of the UK Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials Network, led by Professor Rupert Pearse. RCoA Anniversary Meeting: Innovating and Improving within Perioperative Medicine - 9th & 10th March
This year's 2-day RCoA Anniversary Meeting includes a debate on perioperative medicine, NIAA HSRC presentations from Professor Mike Grocott and Dr Ramani Moonesinghe, and the John Snow Oration will be delivered by Professor Don Berwick, renowned world expert on patient safety.
