SNAP3 2019

Call for Proposals for SNAP3

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is looking for proposals or topic for SNAP3 - the next Sprint National Anaesthesia Project. Topic suggestions are welcome from anaesthetists, other healthcare professionals and members of the public.

SNAPs are short observational clinical research studies examining an area of importance for patient benefit, which aim to recruit a large number of patients from as many NHS hospitals as possible in a short period of time. An additional important feature of SNAPs is engagement of "grass-roots" anaesthetists, particularly trainees, in delivering the studies.

The College is therefore inviting topics that meet the following criteria:

  • Important to patients
  • Important to anaesthetists
  • Be currently incompletely studied in incidence or nature
  • Be a short observational clinical research study
  • Recruit a large number of patients from as many NHS hospitals as possible in a short period of time
  • Engage "grass-roots" anaesthetists, particularly trainees, in delivering the studies.
  • Not amenable to study by other methods (specifically NOT suitable for either clinical trial, national audit or long-term registry)

Topics that may potentially involve collaboration with other specialties and / or international collaboration in SNAP3 are encouraged, though this is not essential.

Previous SNAPs examined patient reported outcomes after surgery and anaesthesia (SNAP-1), and the epidemiology and decision-making around postoperative critical care admission (SNAP-2).

Proposers of shortlisted topics will be invited to present the topic at a selection meeting on Monday 1st July.

Please complete the SNAP3 Proposal Form, and send a copy to hsrc@rcoa.ac.uk before the proposal deadline - 9am Friday 31st May

Proposing a topic does not commit the proposer to leading the topic; the lead for SNAP3 will be selected through a separate process in Autumn 2019.
