The National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) awards grants for clinical and non-clinical projects twice yearly. The NIAA administers the grants awarded by the RCoA, AAGBI, British Journal of Anaesthesia, Anaesthesia and the anaesthetic specialist societies. In addition, there are occasional ad-hoc calls for funding with a specific remit.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has a remit to improve the quality, relevance, and focus of research in the NHS and social care by distributing funds in a transparent way after open competition and peer review.

The NIHR have researcher-led, health challenge-led and commissioned programmes, and provide funding across a range of funding streams. The Health Service and Delivery Research streams are of particular relevant to those seeking funding for research in the area of Health Services Research.
