The National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) awards grants for clinical and non-clinical projects twice yearly. The NIAA administers the grants awarded by the RCoA, AAGBI, British Journal of Anaesthesia, Anaesthesia and the anaesthetic specialist societies. In addition, there are occasional ad-hoc calls for funding with a specific remit.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has a remit to improve the quality, relevance, and focus of research in the NHS and social care by distributing funds in a transparent way after open competition and peer review.

The NIHR have researcher-led, health challenge-led and commissioned programmes, and provide funding across a range of funding streams. The Health Service and Delivery Research streams are of particular relevant to those seeking funding for research in the area of Health Services Research.

The Medical Research Council supports medical science research within a variety of venues including universities, hospitals and its own units in the UK and Africa.

Researchers may find it helpful to refer to the latest patient safety updates from the Safe Anaesthesia Liaison Group (SALG), comprised of the RCoA and many other stakeholder orgsanisations, when planning and developing research projects.

The Rosetrees Trust provides grants and support to gifted medical researchers. The trust currently supports over 250 medical research projects across all medical specialities.

The Wellcome Trust currently supports over 2000 grants for research in science, technology and medical humanities and engagement. The trust offers various funding schemes, including Strategic Awards and Investigator Awards and Fellowships.
