Cardiovascular physiology.

I am currently doing a project looking at the role of the carotid body in the development of hypertension. In particular we are comparing peripheral chemosensitivity during exercise in hypertensives vs controls.

I am also interested in exercise physiology and the role of exercise in pre-op optimisation of patients.

Research Expertise

Exercise testing in conjunction with peripheral chemosensitivity of the carotid body: hypoxia and dopamine testing along with muscle sympathetic nerve activity.

Research Areas

Anyone interested in the carotid body in autonomic diseases and how it is affected by anaesthesia.

The role of studying exercise physiology in peri-operative optimisation.
